Custom Office Pods: Decide What to Change and What to Keep Standard

Quick answer: keep an office pod standard when the existing model supports the people, task, furniture, interfaces and site route. Request customization only for a named gap. Changing color or branding is a different decision from changing the enclosure, door position, openings or performance evidence.

This guide helps architects, dealers and project buyers decide what to change and what to keep standard. It does not promise that every requested dimension, technology or performance condition is feasible. Start with the closest working standard model

A standard model is usually the cleaner starting point when its overall size, user arrangement and site access already work. The buyer can then limit changes to finish, branding or clearly defined interfaces. A larger custom structure is not automatically a better answer: it can change packing, delivery access, furniture fit and the evidence that applies to the configuration.

Separate four levels of customization

Do not use one word called custom for every change

A color change may not alter the working layout. A new desk may affect circulation without changing the shell. A moved opening can affect structure, services and the evidence used to assess the enclosure. Put each request in the correct level so the quotation does not treat cosmetic work and engineering work as the same item.

Keep factory supply and site work in separate columns

List the items supplied with the pod, priced options, buyer-supplied devices and local site work. For every interface, name the component, position, power or data requirement, cable route, mounting method and installation party. If the buyer supplies a screen, camera, sensor or other device, send its datasheet before the drawing is approved.

Control the drawing and quotation together

A custom project needs one agreed revision. The drawing should identify the geometry and interfaces; the quotation should identify the included supply, options, local work, price and timing. Keep unresolved items visible. An open question about a door position, device model or local connection should not disappear into a general note such as subject to customization. Give it an owner and a decision date.

Know when a fixed room or another product route is better

Use the office pod route for one-person calls and desk tasks, and the meeting booth route for local collaboration. If the task needs a large table, many people, permanent storage, specialist equipment or building services that cannot be resolved in a pod configuration, an existing meeting room or a purpose-built fixed room may be the better choice.

Customization should solve a project constraint, not preserve an attractive concept that cannot be delivered or verified. When the standard model is close, compare the cost and risk of changing the product with the cost of changing furniture, equipment position or site layout.
