What Is an Office Pod? Types, Sizes and Prices

An office pod is a small, sound-reducing room with its own door, lighting, ventilation and power. MobileX pods are delivered in panels and assembled inside an existing room, so no walls need to be built. MP1 takes 1 m² of floor and assembles in about an hour; in a MobileX factory test it was about 35 dB quieter inside than outside. EXW reference price: USD 1,380 (July 2026).

The useful question is what happens inside. A short phone call, a full morning at a laptop and a four-person discussion need different layouts. Start with the activity, then choose the size and furniture that support it.

What is an office pod used for?

Office pods give people a separate place to speak or concentrate while keeping the main office open. Choose a single-person pod for one person’s work and a meeting pod for people sharing a conversation.

Activity People sharing the session Starting model What decides the fit?
Short calls between desk tasks 1 MP1 Space for the caller, laptop and easy entry
Longer video calls or focused laptop work 1 MP1+ Extra working room, chair movement and the equipment used
Interview, coaching or a two-person discussion 2 MP2 A shared table and seating for both people
Small team meeting 3–4 MP3 Seating and a clear view of shared material

A seat count describes people in one shared room. Two unrelated calls need two separate spaces, even when a meeting pod has spare seats. For several users, work out how many office pods you need before choosing the final mix.

For someone using a pod as a regular workstation, check the whole setup: screen, keyboard, chair, working posture and room temperature. MP1+ offers more room than MP1, but the equipment list still matters. The calls versus focused desk-work guide explains when a shared call booth and a dedicated work position serve different needs.

A video call still needs only one seat when one person is in the pod. Sketch the screen, camera, keyboard and cables in their working positions. When two people join the same remote meeting from one enclosure, check that both can see the screen and fit in the camera view; a face-to-face conversation layout may need a different equipment arrangement.

For shared work, include the documents or laptops each person will use and how people enter and leave. The two-person versus four-person guide helps distinguish the daily pair discussion from an occasional larger meeting. Choose the furniture with the pod layout, since a different chair or desk changes the space around the door and fixed fittings.

Office pod, phone booth, work pod or meeting pod: what is the difference?

These names overlap. Use them to find a product category, then read the layout and specifications.

Name used by buyers Usual purpose MobileX starting point
Office pod Broad term for a separate workplace inside an office MP1, MP1+, MP2 or MP3, according to the activity
Office phone booth or privacy booth A single person’s call or video meeting MP1; MP1+ when more working room is useful
Work pod A single-person workspace, often used for longer sessions MP1+, after checking the desk and equipment layout
Meeting pod or meeting booth People meeting in the same room MP2 for two; MP3 for three or four

“Acoustic” and “soundproof” describe the intended sound control, rather than a particular size. For recording, judge the microphone, equipment, room sound and ventilation as a separate task; the recording-space guide is the better starting point for that purchase.

Compare current office pods and meeting pods once you know the activity. The MP1–MP3 comparison goes further into the four models.

What is inside an office pod?

A standard MobileX office pod brings together the enclosure, acoustic treatment, lighting, ventilation and power outlets. The structure uses aluminum alloy, galvanized steel and tempered glass. MP1 and MP1+ include a desktop and stool; their usual desktop height is 760 mm above the floor. MP2 and MP3 have separately priced sofa-and-table sets.

MP1 has an 80 m³/h fan with a stated operating noise of about 30 dB. The fan exchanges air with the surrounding room, so place the pod in a ventilated room kept at a comfortable temperature. Choose the socket and voltage arrangement for the destination. Occupancy sensing and casters are options to agree when ordering.

For a monitor, desktop computer or other larger equipment, send its width, depth and height with the layout. Ask us for the desk width and depth, and the ventilation figures for your selected model, before you order.

How quiet is an office pod?

In a MobileX factory test, sound outside the pod was about 80 dB and inside about 45 dB: a difference of about 35 dB. This is a factory level-difference test, not a laboratory rating. The door was closed and the fans were running.

A closed enclosure helps separate calls from nearby desks. Deep bass and vibration travelling through the floor are harder to control; keep a pod away from noisy machinery and other strong vibration sources where possible. Speech heard outside also depends on the speaker’s voice, the surrounding room and the listener’s distance. For sensitive conversations, judge privacy at the nearby places where other people sit or pass.

The office-pod acoustic guide explains how to read different sound figures without treating unlike measurements as the same rating.

Office pod or a built meeting room?

Choose a pod when you need a small, separate space in an existing office and value keeping the main room adaptable. A built room can be the better choice when you need a larger group space, a particular room shape or a permanent layout tied into the building’s services.

Question Office pod Built meeting room
How is the space created? A manufactured enclosure is delivered and assembled Partitions, door, finishes and services are built on site
What sets the space available? The selected model’s internal dimensions The room layout and wall build-up
What happens when the office changes? Disassemble and move it, or roll it across a level floor on optional casters Plan changes to the built partitions and services
What sets the timeline? Production 15–20 days (custom about 30 days), then shipping; about 1 hour assembly per pod Design, approvals, site work and service installation

Use an existing room if it already suits the activity and is available when needed. For the construction and cost comparison, see office pods versus drywall rooms.

How much does an office pod cost?

The reference prices below use the same July 2026 EXW basis introduced above. Start with the model, add the furniture you need, then compare delivery and installation on the same scope.

Model Capacity Shell footprint Pod reference price, USD Furniture
MP1 1 1.00 m² 1,380 Desktop and stool included
MP1+ 1 1.44 m² 1,650 Desktop and stool included
MP2 2 2.00 m² 2,380 Optional two-sofa and table set: 380
MP3 3–4 3.20 m² 3,650 Optional two-sofa and table set: 740

Footprints are the external width multiplied by depth. Allow additional room for entry, circulation and assembly. All four standard models are 2,200 mm high. The office phone booth dimensions guide gives external and internal sizes and a worked room layout.

EXW is the factory price basis. Add freight, import charges and the agreed delivery and assembly work to build your project total. MobileX can quote DDP for an agreed destination and scope; unloading, moving upstairs and assembly should be named in that scope. MOQ is one unit, so a first purchase can be a single pod.

For use at home, the home office pod guide covers household access, space and setup. For a layout outside the standard model range, discuss a custom modular pod with the activity and equipment clearly described.

How is an office pod delivered and installed?

MobileX pods ship in protective export wooden crates. The assembly design uses six main structural panels and 12 connection screws, with video guidance and a reference assembly time of about an hour per pod. Build delivery access and unpacking into the schedule as separate work.

  1. Mark the pod’s footprint on your floor and check the path from the delivery point to that position.
  2. Measure narrow doors, lift openings and the lowest beam, light or other overhead obstruction along the route and above the final position.
  3. Agree who receives the crates, moves the parts, assembles the pod and removes the packaging.
  4. Ask us for the assembly team size, largest crate and panel dimensions, clear door width and minimum room height for your model before you order.

Standard production is typically 15–20 days; a custom order is about 30 days after its details are agreed. Add transport and site work to that production time. Have your facilities team confirm the local electrical and building requirements for the proposed position before purchase.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need builders to install an office pod?

No. A MobileX pod is assembled from six main panels inside the existing room, in about an hour per pod with video guidance.

Can an office pod plug into a wall socket?

Yes. Specify the destination’s voltage and plug arrangement, and provide a suitable supply at the planned position.

Can you move an office pod later?

Yes. Casters can be specified for moves on a suitable level floor; a move between floors or through a narrow route may need disassembly.

Is a four-person meeting pod four separate call spaces?

No. It is one shared room, so separate simultaneous calls need separate enclosures.

Can I buy just one office pod?

Yes. MOQ is one unit, allowing you to start with the space you need first.

How much floor area does MP1 occupy?

1 m². Its external size is 1,000 × 1,000 × 2,200 mm, with entry and circulation space planned around it.
